The defender will be absent from the English team's World Cup qualifier against Latvia due to injury and the player – who did not play in England's 3-0 exhibition win over Wales at Wembley Stadium – will head back to his club Bayer Leverkusen.
The former Liverpool defender has been a regular in the team's backline this campaign but the national squad said no additional team additions were arranged for the qualification match in Riga on Tuesday.
England could secure a spot for next year's World Cup with two matches to remaining if they overcome Latvia on Tuesday and outcomes in other matches in Group K go their in their favor.
