Football Recap: Broncos Narrowly Beat Struggling Jets in Defensive Battle
In a low-scoring contest on Sunday, the Denver Broncos clinched a close win over the winless New York Jets. Signal-caller Bo Nix threw an early scoring strike and kicker Wil Lutz kicked the game-winning decisive three-pointer to seal the hard-fought win.
Dominant Display Wins Game
Despite recording nine sacks against Jets QB Justin Fields, the Broncos were behind 11-10 after conceding a safety in the second half. Remarkably, the Jets managed a mere 82 offensive yards throughout the contest.
The Denver quarterback, who completed 19 of 30 attempts for 174 yards, engineered a decisive 12-play, 65-yard drive that culminated in Lutz's short kick with just over five minutes left.
Record Difficulties for Jets Attack
In spite of their horrendous offensive display, the Jets still had the ball with a chance to score a possible winning score. However Fields was sacked on fourth down from the Denver 44 after coach Aaron Glenn chose to go for it rather than sending out specialist Nick Folk for a difficult field-goal attempt.
The Jets quarterback had difficulties all game, completing just 9 of 17 attempts for 45 yards. New York finished with negative ten net yards passing, the lowest in any contest since 1998.
"The aerial attack was completely absent," Glenn commented after the contest.
