Exploring an Unusual Steam Demo: Controlling a Turdy Character on a Quest to Arrive at the Toilet
Steam Next Fest is in full swing, and enthusiasts have discovered a variety of engaging independent titles. But, one is particularly notable for its unconventional concept. Titled Unko Technica, this old-school styled platformer includes a hero that is truly a turd striving to travel to a restroom. For those curious, "Unko" is Japanese for "poop."
Player controls is straightforward: press a one button to leap. In 150 challenges, you'll face boss fights and unlock a market to acquire outfits for your poop character.
Execute your jumps with caution, since one error requires restarting the level. Jump off air pockets to hurl yourself upward, traverse fragile ledges, and touch triggers to open new areas. Collect UN-KOINS to purchase challenging stages as the action intensifies.
In terms of design, the experience shows off eye-catching environments and catchy background music. The simple graphics of morphing geometric shapes may remind gamers of classic titles like Earthbound.
Even though difficult to recall other games where you are a coiled turd, video games frequently incorporated fecal matter. As an illustration, in Death Stranding, you can make explosives from protagonist excrement. Examples include Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved use dung as fertilizer. And of course, fecal references shows up a lot in the role-playing game The Stick of Truth.
Despite its goofy premise, Unko Technica has already earned impressive accolades, like being named best at Bandai Namco's indie contest in 2023. The demo is accessible at present on Steam, with the full game scheduled to debut on computers in the fall.
