From the very beginning of Campaign 4, fresh DM the talented storyteller has maintained audience suspense with deep backstory, a wide array of characters, and a gripping narrative including divine entities, evil spirits, and sinister influences growing in influence within Dol-Makjar.
Heads-up: Spoilers for the third episode of this adventure follow below.
The Soldiers Table Introduced
The latest chapter finished on a huge suspense moment and introduced the premier party of characters who will split off from the central cast to begin their own adventure, distinct from the additional parties.
This warrior group consists of Teor Pridesire (portrayed by Travis), Thimble (Laura), the strong-willed figure (Whitney Moore), Wicander (Sam Riegel), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie Daymond).
The Reason for Division
With an extensive roster, it was obvious from the beginning that maintaining everyone at a single group would be unfeasible.
That’s why, the opening chapters of Campaign 4 serve as an Overture, intertwining the personal journeys before branching into three smaller tables: Warriors, Planners, and Questers.
The Nature of the Combat Party
As described by the DM, the combat-focused party is for players who are drawn to a classically intense combat and conflict-driven narrative style where non-violent answers are rare.
At first glance, characters like the hesitant healer Wicander might seem unsuited, but the developments of episode 3 make it clear why these five characters are ideally matched for the Soldiers table.
Motivations for Departure
First, the group understands precisely where to proceed after a intense opening clash with the antagonists.
An old friend of Thjazi—whose death initiated the story’s plot—manipulated the foes for his personal gain, invading Thjazi’s hideout, assaulting the character, and swiping all the enchanted items to sell off.
The traitor then paid off his obligations and escaped to a Halovar stronghouse in Gormalay, Timmony, north of the urban center, with Cyd close behind.
Personal Motivations
Additionally, each character has a personal reason to leave the city the metropolitan area:
- Thimble, as the close ally and best friend, wants revenge.
- The adventurer knows Timmony and warns that it is a nasty location.
- The strong character and The cleric, having disobeyed his relatives’ demands to eliminate the target and instead rescued him, have no safe haven.
- However, their status as prominent individuals in the powerful family could assist the team reach areas they typically wouldn’t be able to.
- Moreover, The fighter pledged a unbreakable promise to The cleric for his deliverance and will now go with him everywhere.
Pursued by Authorities
Finally, all of them are wanted by the authorities that control the city for a range of causes, making lingering locally too risky:
- The rogue and Kattigan are recognized lawbreakers.
- The strong figure and The cleric defied House Halovar and the legion of demons they are partnered with.
- The fighter is marked for death by House Halovar.
This results in them little choice but to travel to Timmony in search of the traitor.
Upcoming Developments
From the recent installment’s post-show segment, we find out that the Soldiers table will be absent next week, leaving the other eight participants to form the Questers and Schemers parties.
Audiences can anticipate finding out which characters will be assigned to which table in Campaign 4’s last Overture episode, released on the upcoming Thursday.
